The People Learning Under Supervision (PLUS Program) is a nine-week introductory paid internship experience for graduating high school seniors and college students, ages 18-25, who are interested in working in the field of Human Services.
The PLUS Program has five goals:
To introduce students to human services as a possible career field
To provide additional support for persons with disabilities
To find meaningful summer employment for young adults
To provide each student with the opportunity to earn three paid college credits during the summer while working
To build a work force that culturally refects the communities served by the Department of Developmental Services.
Services
PLUS provides training and paid summer job placements for up to 17 interns and generally provides the following:
An introduction to developmental disabilities
A History of mental retardation in the Pioneer Valley
Diversity
First Aid & CPR
Human Rights
Interpersonal skills/professional conduct
Behavioral Interventions and other DMR trainings that are required for entry-level positions within various Human Service Organizations.
Free 3 credit college summer course at Holyoke Community College
